JEN Singapore Tanglin by Shangri-La

This is the first time I've ever given a hotel such a bad review. I've always had a pretty good impression of hotels in Singapore, but after five days at this blindly chosen hotel, I'm really thinking of switching. The reason was that I left my diamond ring on my wrist that afternoon, so my watch and earrings were left on the nightstand next to my bed while I showered. I used a napkin to hold them, and placed my watch, earrings, and diamond ring on top of the napkin. That afternoon, when I was leaving the room, I ran into the Chinese housekeeper at the door. I asked her to clean the room. I was pretty sure I'd taken my watch and earrings with me, but I'd left my ring on the napkin. I'd even told my friends that I didn't have my ring with me. I was terrified I wouldn't be able to find it when I got home. So, when we got back to the room in the middle of the night, the first thing I did was look for my ring on the nightstand. Sure enough, it was gone! We searched the floor, but it was gone. We then contacted the management to come to the room. They came twice, documented the incident, and promised to give us an update that evening. That afternoon, a housekeeper was at the door, and we asked her about the ring on our bedside table, which also had some paper on it. We asked if she had seen it when she cleaned the room. She said she didn't see any paper. How could that be possible? I put the paper there myself, so how could I not see it? But the housekeeper was absolutely certain she didn't see any paper. She was the only one who cleaned our room from start to finish, and she still said she didn't see any paper. Even if she accidentally threw the paper and ring away like garbage and claimed she didn't see it to avoid responsibility, it's possible she didn't see it. After all, there's no surveillance in the room. The hotel contacted us that evening and said they couldn't resolve the matter, so we called the police. It's ridiculous that such a large hotel doesn't even have a Chinese-speaking housekeeper. The police took note of the incident and said the investigation would take two weeks. Sigh, I don't even feel like traveling anymore. Who would dare leave things in their room after this?

Facilities: 1. The lobby is small, but very close to Orchard Boulevard on the Brown TE Line. It's less than a minute's walk from the lobby to the subway station. 2. The Chinese-speaking staff may not be available during check-in, and you'll need your email address (don't use your QQ email address, as you won't receive emails). 3. To get to your room, you need to use your room card to dial the corresponding floor for the elevator to activate. (This isn't necessary for going downstairs.) Cleanliness: 1. Cleanliness is generally good. A cleaning staff member comes daily and will unplug and secure your charger. 2. You can choose to keep the rest of the bathroom towels; if you choose to keep them, they'll hang on the rack and won't be replaced. 3. The restroom has drinking water, so there are no bottles of mineral water. 4. Everything you need is provided: a toothbrush, toothpaste, conditioner, and body lotion. Service: 1. If you order takeout from the hotel, the hotel or its drivers won't deliver it to your door. Ordering food from the hotel will be delivered to your door by a small robot. 2. Calls to room service will most likely be in English, so if you're not very good at English, prepare a translation in advance. 3. When you check out of the hotel and take a taxi to the airport, someone will be at the lobby entrance to help you load your luggage into the taxi. 4. If the taxi driver is Chinese, they'll be relatively friendly and chatty. Indian or other drivers will be quieter and may not respond to your initial greeting. Singapore has very few mosquitoes. I even wore short pants all day and only got a very small bite, which didn't hurt.
